Conceiving the baby is the wish of every parent; couples spend their lives creating the best possible environment for raising their infants before conceiving them.

But an unwanted pregnancy can ruin all those plans and may create mental, financial, and medical complications- So to prevent such a disastrous situation you should have some know-how about contraception.

Contraception, in general, is planning to prevent pregnancy by using different methods. Methods that can be reversible or irreversible, long or short-acting, and more or less effective, but the basic principle of all those methods is to stop the mating between sperm of male and ova of female.

Below, I’ve listed the four common and easiest ways to prevent pregnancy.

Condoms

Condoms are latex made pouches either placed on an erected penis or inside the vagina to keep the semen from entering the vagina.

Condoms not only prevent pregnancy but as well as provides the most effective protection against STDs (sexually transmitted diseases) and infections. They also come in different materials in case you’re allergic to latex.

Nevertheless, this method of contraception is easy to carry, hormonal free and 99% effective, but it can tear or come off during sex, so it is helpful to use another contraception method to ensure the prevention of pregnancy.

Vasectomy

Vasectomy is a minor surgical procedure to cut off or block the two small tubes which carry out sperms, the vasa deferentia. You would still be able to ejaculate, but that simply will be the seminal fluid without sperms.

The first few ejaculations after surgery may contain some sperms, but those are simply remainings already present in the ejaculatory tube.

Vasectomy, before and after.

This method is 100% effective but mostly not recoverable, so be sure about not having children in future before considering this option.

Contraception Pills

Contraceptive pills are oral medications that mostly contain estrogen and progestin. These hormones stop ovulation and make it difficult for sperm to go through the uterus and fertilize the egg.

These are daily pills and works best when taken at the same time of the day. Depending on your pill type choice, you would have to take them for your whole periodic cycle or 12 weeks with seven days break after or taken every day without a break.

This method is 99.99% effective if taken as guided and is an effortlessly reversible method. However, it doesn’t provide protection against STDs; headaches, dizziness and nausea are among other side effects.

Tubal Ligation

It is a permanent female sterilization procedure to prevent pregnancy. In this method, through surgery, the fallopian tubes are ligated or tied to stop the egg from entering the uterus.

Female sterilization is very effective and does not cause side effects such as nausea, headaches or weight gain.

However, Like man sterilization, it is also almost irreversible. So choose this after consulting your partner about the surety of permanent birth control.
